If you have some smart devices, you've probably noticed that the majority of them use 2.4 GHz and not 5 GHz. There are several reasons for this and we wanted to point out a couple of the reasons why our SmallGarden uses 2.4 GHz as well.
- Range is an important factor. 2.4 GHz will go further and penetrate more obstacles, such as walls and floors, than 5 GHz
- Most household smart devices don't require much bandwidth. Using 2.4 GHz doesn't saturate the 5 GHz band so that it's available for the devices that need the extra bandwidth
- Speed plays an important role as well. By leaving the 5 GHz band for the devices that require it, those devices remain faster with less devices using it
*Most modern routers emit a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band simultaneously, even if it is not present in the default settings. Feel free to reach out to support@edntech.com if you have any questions about your router.
